One of my friend told me this cool trick through which you can protect your private data from any novice user who uses your system in your absence. The good thing about this procedure is that it don’t need any software package which should be installed before you may hide the drives. Just follow these simple steps to hide and then unhide the volumes.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open command prompt by typing CMD in RUN
  2. Type DISKPART
  3. Type LIST VOLUME
  4. Now the next step is to select the Volume no. to hide. Suppose you want to hide E drive.
  5. Type SELECT VOLUME 3
  6. Type REMOVE LETTER E. This will hide your E drive.
  7. Inorder to show the hidden volume again type ASSIGN LETTER E

I checked all the commands in Windows XP. After you may hide or show the volume from the above procedure, there is no need to restart the system. Changes will take effect instantly.
